Opportunities in the media center
Robotics - WJES is continuing our commitment to robotics training. Their will be mini lessons throughout the year in all grades continuing the process of coding and robotics. Students will start learning simple coding in lower grades and advance to designing programs for various types of robots in the upper grades. Jackson County has partnered with UGA to develop a robotics program that will enable our students to be able to compete for jobs in the future at businesses in our region and beyond that, incorporate robotics in the workforce. We now have several different robots for students to use in the media center to program and explore. We have Dash & Dot, Ozobots and Ollie. We've also added the Osmo app for iPad and two Makey Makey kits. Please give us feedback on which ones you like the most and why!
Bookfairs - We will have two opportunities for students to purchase books during our fall and spring bookfairs. These are a great way for families to add new favorite books to home libraries and support WJES at the same time. We use funds from the bookfairs to purchase new books and technology for the media center. Stay tuned to the Google calendar for upcoming dates!
News Crew - Students in 5th grade will be able to apply for positions in our WJES News Crew. There will be 3 teams of 3 students each that will rotate throughout the year recording our daily announcements. Each team will consist of 2 anchors and 1 camera person. Applications will be available in the Media Center and online at this hyperlink. All applications must be completely filled out and turned in to Mrs. Waldrip by August 11. (No exceptions)
Teams will be announced on August 14th.
